Same-day dentistry

Diagnosing and treating a patient's needed procedure in the same visit, using open time and same-visit technology.

Same-day dentistry means treating a diagnosed condition in the same appointment it was found, rather than sending the patient home to schedule a separate visit weeks later: a same-day crown made chairside with a mill, a filling done in the same hygiene visit where the decay was spotted, or a same-day denture adjustment squeezed into an open block rather than booked out. It depends on both the right equipment and a scheduling mindset that keeps genuine open time available for exactly this purpose.

The case for same-day dentistry is partly about patient experience (many patients strongly prefer resolving a problem immediately over a second trip, and that convenience itself lifts case acceptance), and partly about protecting production that would otherwise leak away entirely. A patient told to "call and schedule" a second appointment has a real chance of never doing it, especially if cost, fear or simple procrastination gets in the way once they've left the building.

Building same-day capacity into daily scheduling means treating open time as a resource to protect rather than a gap to fill defensively with whatever books first: the two goals actually pull in different directions.
