Treatment plan presentation

The conversation where recommended treatment, its rationale and its cost are explained to a patient for a decision.

Treatment plan presentation is the conversation where a patient learns what treatment is being recommended, why, and what it will cost, and it is the single moment most directly responsible for a practice's case acceptance rate, even though the trust and clarity that make it succeed are usually built well before the patient ever hears the plan out loud. A presentation built on a foundation of a rushed exam or a confusing phone call rarely recovers in the room, no matter how polished the script is.

Common, specific mistakes include quoting a fee before the patient understands the value or the consequence of not treating, offering vague next steps like "the front desk will get you scheduled" instead of naming actual open appointment times on the spot, and presenting every option with equal enthusiasm rather than making a clear, confident clinical recommendation the patient can trust. Each of these introduces a moment of doubt that lets acceptance slip.

The most effective presentations connect the treatment to something the patient already said they cared about, offer specific next steps immediately, and treat the conversation as continuing the relationship built earlier in the visit rather than as a separate sales moment bolted on at the end.
