Financial arrangements
The agreed plan for how a patient will pay for treatment (insurance estimate, payment plan, or fee) set before work begins.
Financial arrangements are the specific, agreed terms for how a patient will pay for a treatment plan (the insurance estimate, any remaining patient portion, and a payment schedule if the balance is being spread out) settled before treatment starts rather than discovered by the patient on a bill afterward. Clear financial arrangements are one of the more underrated levers on both case acceptance and collections, since a patient who understands exactly what they'll owe and when is far less likely to hesitate on accepting treatment or to fall behind on paying for it.
The habit that protects a practice's collections ratio is making this conversation specific and proactive rather than vague and reactive: naming the actual dollar amount the patient will owe after insurance, offering a payment plan option before the patient has to ask for one, and getting it documented and, where a balance is being financed, signed.
Treating financial arrangements as part of the clinical conversation, not a separate awkward money talk handled entirely by a different team member after the fact, tends to produce both smoother case acceptance and a cleaner accounts receivable balance down the line.
